Wood

In return it asks for ongoing maintenance, and exposed elevations in wet climates need more attention than sheltered ones.
Fiberglass
Fiberglass frames are dimensionally stable, meaning they expand and contract very little with temperature swings — useful in climates with hard winters and hot summers. They can be painted, and profiles are typically slimmer than vinyl for a given opening. They usually sit at a higher price point.
Composite
Composite frames blend wood fibre with polymers to get closer to the look and feel of timber without the same maintenance cycle. Formulations differ widely between brands, so compare warranty terms rather than marketing language.
How to narrow it down
Start with constraints rather than preferences: any historic district rules, your climate, and how much maintenance you realistically want to take on.
